Chapter 3: Mechanical Properties of fluids HSC Maharashtra state board

Introduction

Fluids means a substance that can flow.Liquid and gas are collectively called fluid.Liquid and gas are collectively called fluid.Fluid flows under the action of force or pressure.

Property of ideal gas:

-It is incompressible.

-It flow is irrational and no turbulence is flow.

– It is non Vegas. It flu is steady

Compressible

The force which is used to compress the object.

Tensile

The force which is used to extend  object.

Properties of fluids

-They have ability to flow.

-They have ability to take shape of container.

Fluid at rest

The branch of physics which deals with the properties of fluid  is called hydrostatic.

Pressure

Any fluid at rest exert pressure force on the contact.

  • Wall of container
  • Surface

Atmospheric pressure

– Made or formed up by fluid i.e air

– Exerts download force due to its weight

– The pressure due to this force is called at atmospheric pressure

– Hightake the surface of earth that is sea level

Vaccum

Reason where gas pressure is less than the atmospheric pressure is called vacuum.

Real vaccum

Where there is no any molecules ,matters atoms, ions in the region.

Pascal law

Pascal laws state that pressure applied at any point of the enclose fluid at rest is transmitted equally and undiminished to any point of the fluid and also on the walls of the container provided certain piston.

Measurement of pressure

Instrument are used

  1. Pressure meter

   2. pressure gange

   3. vaccum gavge

Mercury barometer

And instrument which major atmospheric pressure is called as barometer.

Intermolecular force

Matter is made up of molecule.

Any molecules attract each other by same force we called it a intermolecular force.

Cohesive

The force between two molecules of same substance is called cohesive force.

Strongest in solid and weakest In gas.

Hence solid has definite shape.
